Space Solutions
Working across the UK, Space Solutions integrates workplace consultancy, interior design, architecture, design and build together with change management to optimise working space and workplace potential.
Chris Carr is a Workplace Consultant at Space Solutions, based from their Glasgow office and participates in around three to four Peer Works events each year. Chris describes productivity as:
“Doing quality work to the extent that you get repeat business and new connections, particularly through word of mouth.”
He sees the Peer Works events as providing the opportunity to get to know what potential clients and other businesses are thinking across a range of sectors, not just the ones he is familiar with, enabling greater connections to be made. He feels that there is always a speaker at each event that challenges your way of thinking.
“You can find yourself in an echo chamber, the same faces with the only difference and diversity being the shoes you wear. These events help you learn more about different types of business and help you gain new ideas and ways of working.”
Following attendance at Peer Works events, Chris will write and circulate a summary and have conversations with colleagues in order to stimulate possible innovation and gain traction for improvements and change. As an example, he is keen to revisit a Think Tank exercise which the company undertook a few years ago, particularly given the changing business landscape over that time.
He encourages those in other businesses to attend Peer Works sessions in order to expand their networks, their thinking and potentially their ways of working.
“What’s the worst that can happen if you attend an event? You can have your mind expanded! The events provide you with the opportunity to unlock new ways of thinking through multidisciplinary collaboration outside of the bubble that you normally work in.”
